A forced-reset trigger (FRT), sometimes called a forced-reset device, is a firearm component that mechanically resets the trigger after each shot. The firearm still fires one round per function of the trigger, while the assisted reset can allow faster follow-up shots.

At the federal level, a July 2024 federal court decision concluded that the FRTs at issue could not be classified as machineguns. The U.S. Department of Justice announced a settlement of the related litigation on May 16, 2025.
